Terms of use
These terms apply when you use the TrailScout app for iOS and Android and the trailscout.club website. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use TrailScout.
Who can use TrailScout
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian should agree to these terms with you. You are responsible for your account and for what happens under it, so keep your login details safe.
Your safety is your responsibility
Hiking, trekking, running, riding and driving off-road carry real risk. Maps, routes, trail details, weather, the group map, automatic check-in and SOS messages are aids, not guarantees. They can be wrong, late or unavailable, especially without mobile signal. Don't depend on TrailScout as your only way of navigating or calling for help. Check conditions, carry what you need, tell someone your plan and follow local rules and closures.
Your content
You keep ownership of the posts, photos, comments, routes, reviews and condition reports you share ("your content"). By sharing it, you give TrailScout a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store it and show it to the audience you chose (public, followers, a group or only you) in the app, for as long as it stays on your account. You confirm that you have the right to share it and that it doesn't break these terms or anyone else's rights. You can delete your own posts and treks at any time.
What is not allowed
There is no place on TrailScout for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. We have zero tolerance for it. Do not post, send or share anything that:
- is hateful, harassing, threatening, bullying or discriminatory;
- is sexually explicit, graphically violent or shows cruelty to people or animals;
- is illegal, fraudulent, misleading, or spam or advertising we didn't agree to;
- shares someone else's private information, or their live or exact location, without their consent;
- encourages dangerous behaviour or routes through closed, protected or private land;
- pretends to be another person, or breaks someone's copyright or other rights.
Don't try to break, overload or misuse the app or other people's accounts, scrape data, or use the app to track someone who hasn't agreed to it.
Reporting and blocking
Every post, comment and profile has a Report option. You can also block anyone, from their profile or from one of their posts or comments. Blocked people disappear from your feed, comments and search, and you can unblock them in Profile → Settings → Blocked people. We review every report within 24 hours. Content that breaks these terms is removed, and we may warn, suspend or permanently remove the accounts of people who break them, in serious cases without warning. You can also email support@trailscout.club.
Sharing your location
Features such as the group map, "on the trail now" and SOS share your position with other people. They only do so with the people you choose, such as members of a group you joined, and you control them in the app and in your phone's settings. Only share your location with people you trust, and only join groups you recognise.
Trail information
Trail details, difficulty ratings, conditions and photos come from us, from other users and from public map data. We try to keep them accurate but can't promise they are correct or current. Trails and routes can change after storms, closures or rock falls.
Our rights
The TrailScout app, name, logo and design belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for yourself. You may not copy, sell, reverse engineer or build a competing service from it, except where the law allows.
Ending your use
You can stop using TrailScout at any time and can delete your account in Profile → Settings → Delete account. Your data is permanently deleted after 30 days unless you log in again, as the privacy policy explains. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or to protect other people or the service.
No warranty and limits on our liability
TrailScout is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we don't promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, and we are not liable for injury, loss or damage that comes from using it, from trail or weather information, from other users' content or behaviour, or from a feature failing, including SOS and check-in. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that the law does not allow us to limit.
Changes
We may update these terms. For significant changes, we will tell you in the app before they apply. Using TrailScout after a change means you accept it. The date below shows the latest version.
