What is TrailScout?

TrailScout is an offline maps app for trekking, trail running and off-road driving. When you save a trail, its map downloads to your phone automatically, so navigation and recording work with no mobile network or data, because GPS uses satellites. In a group, phones also share location with each other over Bluetooth, so the group map keeps updating offline.

What you get

  • Automatic downloadSaving a trail downloads its map. No separate region downloads to remember.
  • GPS without dataYour position comes from satellites, so the blue dot works anywhere you can see the sky.
  • Trail-level detailThe route itself, condition reports and points like junctions and regroup spots, not just a road map.
  • 3D terrain previewFly over the route before you go to see the climbs and the ridges.
  • Offline group mapGroup members' locations are relayed over Bluetooth when there is no network.
  • Draw your own routeTap points on the map for distance, elevation gain and time, then save it offline.

Why a dedicated app

Most treks and off-road routes in India lose network within an hour of the trailhead. A map that needs data is no use there.

Many map apps make you download a whole region in advance. TrailScout ties the offline map to the trail you saved, so it is ready when you need it.

How it works

  1. Pick a route. Browse trails nearby or anywhere, filter by activity and difficulty, and save the offline map.
  2. Gather the crew. Go solo, or host a group: friends scan your QR code and you start everyone at once.
  3. Go, with backup. Record with big, readable stats; the group map shows who is ahead and behind; SOS is one tap away.
  4. Share the finish. Elevation chart, photos and XP; stamp the peak in your passport.

Does GPS work in airplane mode?

On most phones, yes: GPS can stay on in airplane mode, and an offline map will still show your position.
